For the longest time, I believed that I was the black sheep of my family. I would make my mother and sister wrong for never “getting me.” It was a perpetual narrative that I played in my mind…over and over again. It kept me from having a deeper connection with my sister and mother. You want to know what the worst part was? I really believed that I was right. Have you ever told yourself a story so many times that you start to believe it’s the “truth?” How’d that work out for ya? Well, if you had a similar experience to mine..then it SUCKED. Because:

I alienated myself I made my family wrong I never believed I was “enough” I rejected their love I was cold and abrupt

The day that I realized that my story was a big fat lie, was the day I was set free. Click play to learn how to choose your response when you feel stuck in your family story.

Once you watch the video, I would love to hear: Next time you are with your family, how will you now choose to respond? What do you learn about yourself and why you get triggered?? I’ll “see” you in the comments below!

I hear this all the time: “Oh, I’m spiritual, I don’t care about money,” or “Is it wrong for me to charge people for my services? I mean, I am spiritual.”

It breaks my heart when I see people who have a purpose and a gift, yet are struggling to make ends meet because they are afraid or feel guilty to ask to get PAID for what they do.

This is such an important topic, whether you are an entrepreneur or you work for someone else because, money is our tool of trade and without it, we cannot sustain ourselves (unless you’re living up in the Himalayan mountains and I’m almost positive you would still need money to survive, trust me, I’ve been there.)

There ain’t nothing spiritual about not getting paid for your gifts @AskVasavi

This week’s Keepin’ It Real answers a question sent in by Lisa, one of my viewers and I promised her I would be sure to address her question here on today’s episode.

The belief that one cannot be spiritual and make money has got to stop. I share some of my personal experiences in today’s video and what to do if you are struggling with this issue.

The topic of money can make people squirm in their seats. I’m hoping that today’s video will demystify some of the myths that have been passed on for years about being spiritual and making money.

In the discussion section below I would love to hear about what you were taught about money and if that impacted how you run your business (and your life).

Here’s to you being spiritually, emotionally, and financially abundant.

Love always,

By now you have probably heard and read about my personal story of being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In case you haven’t, here is a quick recap:

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in December 2002. For almost years I was on heavy medication to “stabilize” my moods. In these past ten years I have successfully managed to get two Masters, an Ivy League education, become a certified coach, a best selling author, a radio show host interviewing NY Times best-selling authors, a bi-weekly spot on our local morning show, Kansas City Live, and create programs for people who want to shift their mindset so that they can experience freedom. Oh, and I got married and moved from NY to Kansas. And got a dog.

Last year I chose to get off medication once and for all. See, I believe no amount of medication can substitute our internal power. Thus, I got off.

And recently I heard from my husband these words, “Babe, every day you become more and more of the person who you are meant to become.”

My heart swoons.

Now let me ask you. Have you ever been in a funk? Hear me out. This isn’t about having bipolar, depression, or anxiety. This is about being human.

So, how do you stay positive when shit hits the fan?

What small shifts will you make to experience positive thinking in your life?

It doesn’t matter where I am or who I’m speaking to, there’s one question I get asked constantly:

“How can I feel more comfortable being me?”

It takes a lot of courage to ask this, because it forces you to get REAL & raw with yourself.

Today’s KIR video is all about busting out from behind those masks we put on, so check it out & listen up:

Hey Vasavi! I love you you are so genuine and real. You aren’t called the Keepin’ It Real Guru for nothing, and I really look forward to your weekly videos. So thank you! Here’s my question. I know deep down that I am waiting to be unleashed. I feel like most of the time, I am wearing a mask. It’s scary for me to just be me. It’s been so long where I can just be myself that I’m starting to forget who that even is. How do I just be me?”

There’s one main reason why so many people are afraid to be themselves: societal conditioning.

We spend our entire lives learning there are rules we need to follow, lines we can’t cross, and things we shouldn’t say. We start to believe if we don’t obey these guidelines, we won’t be accepted, approved of, or loved. So we hide ourselves. We push ourselves to fit in and meet everyone else’s standards, because we’re so terrified of being shunned or shamed.

And worst of all, when we’re constantly an altered version of ourselves, we slowly but surely start to forget who we really are.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Watch the video now to get the steps you need to start living as the authentic, totally unadulterated YOU.

Warning: expect to break a few rules. That’s what liberation’s all about, baby!

How about you? Do you feel at ease being 100% yourself, all the time? Or are there moments you dodge behind masks too? Get real with me in the comments below, I always love to hear from you guys.
