The #1 thing you need to do to become self-reliant

So maybe you’re stuck in a job you can’t stand. Or maybe you feel like you have no control over your finances. Or, maybe you have an idea but can’t seem to figure out where to start.

Part of becoming a “grown up” is taking care of yourself and making your own decisions.

But more often than not, we succumb to our past, beliefs about ourselves, and the opinions of others as a guiding force and compass as to how we live our lives.

While you may not feel completely self-sufficient in certain areas of your life, you can most definitely be self-reliant.

A person with a self-reliant mindset doesn’t wait around for someone else to handle their life. If you comes across a problem, you don’t wait around for someone else to take care of it. If you encounter a problem, you stay focused on the solution and try to figure it out until you…figure it out.

But in a world where we are trained to think that we are owed something, and the answers are literally at our fingertips (thanks to the Internet), what often happens is that we become complacent and straight up l-a-z-y.

Here is the #1 step to becoming more self-reliant:

Assume responsibility.

My mentor Lisa Nichols once said to me, “Vasavi, your entire life is nothing more than a culmination of all the decisions you have made.”

That hit me like a ton of bricks. Imagine if you looked at your current reality as the entirety of every decision and choice you have made. Now, this isn’t about fault finding. It’s about taking the power back. Take the power back. Assume responsibility.

Many people will get caught up in beating themselves up and shaming themselves.

Stop. This is counterproductive.

Rather, step back, look at your entire life. Every area. And ask yourself, “How did I get here?”

This is often the most painful thing to do but I promise you it is the most powerful step you can take towards becoming more self-reliant.

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.”  -Theodore Roosevelt

My goal is to help you do just this. I know exactly what it’s like to feel like life is spinning out of control and no matter where you reach you can’t grasp on to it.

I know what it’s like to be confronted with many decisions and not trust yourself to make the “right one.”

If you want to not only become self-reliant but start to trust yourself and simplify how you relate to your life then set up a 20-minute chat with me here.

Look forward to talking to you.
